DOLGEVILLE — Scott Moore, owner of Scott Signs and Contracting on Main Street, Dolgeville, won second place for his patented invention, the Strong Arm Ladder Security System, at the Inventors Exposition in Water-bury, Conn., on Oct. 7 and 8.

The exposition featured over 100 inventors displaying new ideas and products. Each booth was judged for best in show based on uniqueness, simplicity and overall design. It was also judged for how it will benefit the industry it was designed for and its overall performance.

The judge's comments were:

"Mr. Moore's strong arm product is a very straight forward design that is simple to use, quick to install and provides a high level of safety and security when using ladders. The product is unique because it is very universal and can perform in many different ways. One of the products most important features is that it will help prevent injuries and help save lives and is long overdue. The strong arm product is a simple design that can easily be attached to a ladder that will prevent the ladder from tipping, swaying, or falling over." Since safety is important in the work place, Moore researched and found that in 2002 alone, 24,086 people sustained injuries due to falls from ladders. That number does not include fatalities According to the New York State Insurance Association, contractors could see reduced insurance premiums after showing a reduction in claims over a period of three to five years with using the strong arm product.

Moore has previously sought out a manufacturer in the local area. The new product that is now hitting the market place could be a positive input to the local industry and workers in the work place. Moore said his product has created .interest in other states such as North Carolina, South Carolina, Vermont and Florida.

Moore has been to several shows and has had a positive response. He states that everyone that has seen and used his product is amazed at how simple it is and how well it works. Moore developed the idea after a co-worker had fallen from a ladder and had sustained serious injuries. After years of working in the roofing industry and after the incident with his co-worker, Moore decided to go forward with his idea.
